Soma Water Filter Kickstarter Poised To Give Brita Some Competition (VIDEO)

Since its introduction to the U.S. market, the Brita water filter has pretty much dominated the home water filtration game. But that system certainly isn't without its flaws. Anyone who has tried to pour themselves a glass of water before their pitcher has finished completely filtering, and spilled water all over themselves will agree. Also, I think we can all recognize those tiny black flecks of charcoal floating at the bottom of our water glass as a bit of a nuisance.

Not content to put up with these flaws, and the general inelegance of plunking a plastic water pitcher down on your dinner party table, the design team behind the Soma water filter decided it was time for another option. Their totally organic filter fits into a glass carafe (that actually looks pretty nice), and their Kickstarter campaign is nearly funded. The thing we like the best about the Soma filter is that the filtering agent is made from coconut shells instead of plastic.

By donating to the Kickstarter campaign, you can get your very own Soma filter. They'll also launch a subscription service that delivers a new filter to your door every two months, so you never forget to replace it!
